  Why Canterbury English

Canterbury English provides a comprehensive support system to both TEFL program students and graduates. Unlike many other ESL programs, such as CELTA Spain, once a student becomes part of the Canterbury family, their success becomes a priority and personal interest of the program.

AS A STUDENT

With so many cultural experiences to engage in, everyone at Canterbury English believes that program participants should immediately benefit from the company’s “LEARN BY DOING” and “GET PAID FOR DOING” philosophies.

Group CELTA

Firstly, students have the opportunity to learn about and teach three different kinds of ESL courses. This offer is rarely found through CELTA Spain and other TEFL programs. These are the General ESL course, one with a business orientation and one oriented towards children. Through these classes, many people have found that they have a very specific passion when it comes to who and what they teach!

Furthermore, part of the course requires that students engage in forty hours of paid practice teaching. While these hours are educational and entertaining for participants, Canterbury believes that the students should get paid for their work. So, students get paid at full market rate for these hours.

AS A PROGRAM GRAD

Finding a job in Spain is not always easy. ESL teachers are paid between 10-20 euros/hour for one on one class and between 11-18 euros/hour for group classes. However, teachers often have to work at more than one school to get their desired number of teaching hours. Canterbury makes it a priority to help their program grads get a job teaching ESL in Spain. Again, this program feature is rarely included by other organizations and CELTA Spain.

After graduating from the TEFL program, former students have the option of working with Canterbury in the summer at summer camps throughout Spain and during the school year in Madrid. Having a job right after completing the TEFL course helps new teachers get clients and start a life in Spain.

Should program graduates decide they do not want to work for Canterbury English, the program still offers to help them find a job by sending their resumes to various schools and offering classes regarding interviewing, resume writing and self-marketing.

Regardless of an individual’s ESL goals, Canterbury English is the best program to help pursue and attain them.
